MEMBERSHIP

Congratulations on taking the first steps to becoming a member of BTER. You are probably very excited about this wonderful therapy and want to treat everyone at hand.

BTER is an autonomous non profit-making organisation run by Bowen Technique Therapists for Bowen Technique Therapists. One of our main objectives is to look after our member practitioners: to protect your interests, to encourage you as a therapist and to promote Bowen in the spirit of Tom Bowen. No persons with a vested interest will have a say in the running of BTER. BTER is setting standards which will help you to work professionally within any new legislation that is introduced.

Within the structure of BTER it is hoped there will be a Regional Interest Group (RIG) in your area which will meet on a regular basis. The idea of these groups is to provide a friendly informal way of sharing ideas and establishing and promoting Bowen in your area, in fact, an ideal place to gain knowledge and confidence in practising this wonderful therapy.

Requirements for BTER membership

  • Undertaking Bowen Training with one of the BTER approved schools or teachers (see list of teachers)

ASSOCIATE member

  • Completed training in Bowen Therapy (qualification certificate required).

FULL member

  • Completed training in Bowen Therapy.
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance to a minimum value of £1m.
  • Anatomy & Physiology qualification:
BTER accepts Anatomy and Physiology (A & P) certificates from:
    • International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC) click here
    • Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) click here
    • National Open College Network (NOCN) click here
These courses are run for complementary therapists and health workers and can be found at Further/Higher Education colleges in your county.
However, if A & P has been gained as part of another formal training e.g. Medical, Homeopathy, Acupuncture, a copy of that certificate will be acceptable.

  • There are many organizations and schools which provide A & P training - click here.

Please note that the examination set by some courses may fall below the standards set by ITEC, VTCT and NOCN and so BTER may be unable to accept the ‘in-house’ certificates that are awarded.
  • Current First Aid certificate:
The minimum BTER requirement is a one day Basic First Aid / Emergency Aid course (for 'Appointed Persons'). These are available from The British Red Cross and St. John Ambulance.  Both organizations have a regular programme of courses throughout the country.  The 'Appointed Persons'  course costs approximately £90.00 and the certificate is valid for 3 years.  The phone number of their regional offices can be found in your local phone books. Some Colleges of Further Education also offer the same courses at a similar cost.
BTER also accepts current First Aid certificates that have been gained through work e.g. Nurses, Air Stewards or 'First Aid at Work' and 'Life Savers'.

Fill out a BTER application form and post the completed form with payment to the address at the bottom of this page.

BTER STUDENT MEMBERSHIP

BTER is offering one year's FREE membership to all students undertaking Bowen courses with any of the schools and teachers approved by BTER, with effect from 1st October 2004 until further notice.

The free membership entitlement will take effect from the first day of their first module and will last for one calendar year from that date or until they successfully graduate as qualified practitioners - whichever comes first. During that time they will be entitled to all the benefits outlined in the BTER prospectus to which student members would normally be entitled.

This exciting opportunity will enable students to become familiar with the world of Bowen practice and practitioners.

For their membership to become active each student must complete a BTER membership form and return it in the usual way to the Membership Secretary. Details are contained in the BTER prospectus which they will receive from their trainer at the commencement of their course.
